Be aware that the second one says it's an '04+Automatic+6spd, while the 6 speed automatic transmission wasn't available until the 2006 model year.

You are very right! Good eye I didn't catch that! These cars at this lot are shady and I'm really taking to heart what R is saying, I found another RX8 in Illinois about 108 miles away from me, but it's a 2008 with 20 thousand miles on it, it is way pricier but I might be willing to pony up since it's almost a new car and the first owner didn't seem to drive it all too often which is a good sign!

Give us the particulars about the one at the Toyota dealership, and the one on craigslist. You will still need to do the compression testing before you buy. If they won't let you do that BEFORE buying, then WALK AWAY FAST. They are probably trying to sell their problematic car with a failing engine.

As everyone has said, automatics have the worst engine life, so you must be extra diligent BEFORE you buy an automatic. Yes a manual would be a far better purchase with a good engine, but if you must have automatic, then just be a smart buyer. Too many new owners fall in love with the car and let their heart overrule their good decision making. Don't let that happen unless you are prepared to spend thousands more on a rebuilt or remanufactured engine.

The red one is from the dealership, I will give your more details when I get home from school about warranty work! The second one is a different one I found on Craig's list because the guy I was looking at before said it had low compression, the description I took a pic of with the vehicle I think would be good for you guys until I research all warranty work on it too!

Don't worry I will def ask for a compression test for any of the RX8s I look at (and like you said) if they refuse then I will just walk away! It may take some time but I know there's one out there I just gotta find it! A manual would def be better but an automatic (as of right now) would be way more practical for me. Not dissing on manuals or anything but automatics fit my bill and I have read just about everything on how to take care of these things and a redline a day keeps the mechanic away I will abide by! I will premix (seems to work very well with other owners) change to the BHR ignition system, check my oil and fluids regularity ect.

you are on the right track now. When looking at used RX8 just be aware that KBB and NADA prices for used RX8 are above the REAL price they are worth in today's marketplace. So you should be able to get it for below those prices, after confirming the engine is good with a proper rotary compression test. If a seller has a good engine they would not be afraid of a compression test that confirms that. If they balk at a compression test, it is probably because they know they are trying to sell you a car with a failing engine.

Alright sweet! I am super excited to own a Mazda RX-8! I know it won't be the fastest, but the looks and the handling are superb! Oh okay! That is good to know because I probably would've settled for that price, so Ill see what kind of a deal we can work. Indeed I will definitely ask for a compression test, and like you said if he scoffs at it then I know he is trying to hide something. With an engine with less than 20,000 miles on it (and he says hes taken good care of it) shouldn't have any problem passing the compression test.

Odds are it is still good with low mileage and good care. A compression test that comes back good is what you need. Any other issues with the car will be easier to address and cheaper to fix. Keep us informed. We will all help you with any issues or questions. Best to you !

Hey if you want and need an automatic, we still like you and want you in our RX8 club ! Just follow our sage moderator RIWWP's and others' advice and you will find what you want. They are out there, you just may have to do some more research and looking.
