Need new Engine - RX8 - 2004
Hello, I was told by two mechanics I need a New Engine. Ready to Buy a Used one, Just lost...been looking on Ebay - but no luck...
Please help. Any Links / Leads are appreciated.
I have a 2004 RX8 ( manual transmission ) Looking for a low milage Used Engine.
I live in Miami. Hopefully a local one would be best.
Also, what am i supposed to do with my current engine ? Do I bring it somewhere ? can i sell parts ? Do I let the mechanic keep it ?
Thank you !

Don't just buy any ole engine, it might be blown (even if low mileage). Certainly NEVER buy a rotary without knowing the results of its compression test. In fact, before you declare your engine dead, see what leads the mechanics to believe this is the case. A compression test is the best way to know, but not every mechanic is equipped to perform on properly, and not every mechanic knows how to diagnose a rotary.
Contact Mazmart, Rotary Resurrection (here on the forum) or you might have places in FL that do good rebuilds (Pettit comes to mind).
What are the symptoms anyway? What repairs have been attempted?

Never blindly trust what a mechanic says particularly if he is not a rotary specialist. They get paid by the work they do, not by the hour, so promoting extra business is part of their job. Best bet is hit the Mazda dealer and get a proper rotary compression test (3 values per rotor and a printout) then, if you are still unsure of its meaning, post the results here and someone will be able to help you decipher all the numbers.
