You can ask your questions here... that's the point, everyone starts in this forum.
Prevents the topic-specific forums from being polluted with many threads on the same subject (since really the same 4-5 questions get asked ALL the time).

Ok than, this is the oddest way to be initiated to a forum but the rules are rules...

What i wanted to know is if i can hijack the inputs from the engine and use my stand alone engine management to control ignition timing and fuel trim as a piggyback will the stock computer go nuts or will it be fine? I want to keep the throttle by wire, cruise control, electronic omp, etc...

You CAN, but the preferred tuning solution around here is to edit the ECU directly, via Mazdaedit or a Cobb AccessPort. Want to tell us a bit more about what you're trying to accomplish?

Half wit

I had a piggyback on my car for less than 20 miles. It destroyed two side plates and forced me to to a $6,000 rebuild.

Don't be stupid (like I was). Don't be cheap (like I was). Buy a Cobb or the dongles needed for MazdaEdit and do it the other way. Yes, there are stand alone options, but they are harder to use. A guy here named Hoss has been trying to get his standalone right for about six months. He had other issues (wrong injectors), but it has been an odyssey. A lot of people buy and use the re-flashing method. Why? Because it works

Thanks guys, I didn't actually expect any serious answers. I was looking into the mazdaedit method but either i was directed to a website that didn't support the rx8 or i had no idea what i was looking at. I have 8 years experience with megasquirt and figured i'd stick with what i know but was unsure how the rx8 would act with it. my srt4 neon has no problems being hijacked, the speedometer works etc...

Anyhow i want to run about 10 lbs of boost and need some method of tuning. no need to go into a rant about boosting the renesis... i don't give a darn... i'm doing this on a car that was junkyard bound, didn't run, no compression... i put new seals in it and it runs fine now. So i don't care about the consequences. I just want something to play with.

Basic answer is you can run a standalone or one piggybacked.

It needs to be able to read the crank trigger( It's RX8 specific), and you need to leave the OMP and the ECT sensor connected to the stock ECU if you want the throttle and power steering to work correctly

Otherwise there is no feedback between the ECU and the coils or injectors that interact in a bad way.
