Need help with engine build

Hey everyone,

I wanted to ask around see if anyone has attempted to do what im thinking of doing.

My 1st question is.

Q1. What is the problem with cutting a pice of thick gage metal and then carefully using a tig welder, and welding up the side exhaust ports. Then have them lapped and re nitrided and use GXL housings but running FD rotors and seals etc??. I cant see why I cant weld up these side ports on the plate and then machine them back to true. I know ill get all the **** come up with holes and pitting but i could just keep going over it till I get a clean surface. Has anyone tried this ??

Q2. The GXL PP can this be opened up the same as a FD housing ? anyone know if the FD templates can be used on the GXL rx7 housings ??

Q3. I have a 5 speed out of a old Nissan 300xz turbo could I use this gearbox?? are these any issues there once I find an adaptor plate or build one??

I understand this would not be very cost affective to everyone but I can do all the work myself and I already have 2 new GXL housings and like 3 old renny motors laying around. my plan was to run a boar runner turbo on the setup it in the hope to make around 430 to 450 at the wheels.
I think the engine would be more reliable running the FD rotors and having them side exhaust ports closed up then stud the motor.

What do you guys think ???

Use an REW and be done with it 😉

Couple problems (on top of the ones you mentioned). First, it won't be more reliable. You're changing the engine so much that it will work differently than that of any engine ever made. Second, by welding shut the exhaust ports, you will need a new airflow solution. You would need a new upper and lower intake/exhaust manifold and literally everything would need to be custom made. As mentioned, why bother when you can just use a REW?
