More then likely though its a compression issue sadly, my 04 would start fine cold but once she was warmed up on a hot day I would have to let the car cool down for 15 minutes before it would restart.

Good luck, did this shop have any experience REBUILDING rotary engines or had they just worked on rx's before?

they sadly were the reference..... now

thanks guys, have been very busy - checked the compression during last weekend.
- engine is bad... low compression on primary chamber. 5.7. secondary chamber not bad - 7.7
- diagnosis - warped aluminum housing and iron front plate housing.

need to pull down engine again... much vibration after heated up.... then it dies by itself on idle.

If there isn't a reputable rotary shop near by you need to send it to one that is. There are several here in the states that can get you taken care of the first time.

Also, if you want your next engine to last, spend the money for at least new rotor housings. Preferably you will also want to make sure you have your end plates resurfaced AND nitrated. I would stray away from shops offering to rebuild yours under 2k, all your going to get is just new seals.

Do you know what was done during rebuild with your current engine? New bearings, housings, end plates, rotors, e shaft?????

Hey, I know this is an existing thread but for some reason I'm unable to start my own threads. (Help with that would be appreciated too) Anyway, I have an 05 Rx-8 with the 4sp auto. She recently overheated and I'm being told it fried the motor. I'm trying to decide if I should replace the motor or do a rebuild. The issue is I'm not sure exactly what is damaged by overheating in a rotory (this is my first) so I don't know what all I'll need to do the rebuild. Does anyone know what TYPICALLY needs to be done to rebuild a motor that overheated?

first: stop spamming multiple threads
second: read the new owners thread about ten times then read it again read this ten times
third: you can't make your own threads because you haven't met the requirements yet

hi guyz,
back again with some fresh news for the 6-port engine.
- got a rebuilt ported engine fitted to the RX
- engine from Racing beat uk
- new - spark plugs, coils, injectors - fuel nd oil, pulleys, uprated 2.4 KW starter, all pneumatic valves, radiator, radiator fans, in brief the whole lot.
- fired up at first start - ran abt 5 mins - load of smoke - then switched off.
- basically hard to start and get it to idle- break in started - very low compression.
- been turning it with fuel fuse out, jst turning the rotors by starter ( using spare starter- 2.0 Kw)
- been following online recommendations - ATF oil injection through the spark plug holes to get it fired up which it does but with loud back fire, hell loud ( low compression engine i guess)
- it gets in limp mode quite often - no oil pressure
- engine dies at 2500 rpm- it does not hold idle for now.

=== what is the best weight oil to go through the break in stage ???
- next recommended oil change as at 500 Km not revving above 4000 rmp precaution taken.

Any recommendations and advise to reach compression level will be most welcome.

Cheers
PSB.
