How much does it shake? Anything below a running DVD player vibration shouldn't be a concern.

Rotaries are not the smoothest when idling, especially when the engine mounts are shot.

When I had a 99 Corolla, I could see the headlights move due to the vibration at idle, LOL

From what I have read here, motor mounts on 8s do seem to fail sometimes. These hydraulic motor mounts can have a pretty short life.

You could just jack your car up and do a visual check.

It could be motor mounts but it could also be an unhealthy engine with a lumpy idle.

My motor mounts were fine but my vibration/shaking went away I finally replaced my low-compression engine with a Mazda reman.

Is it an automatic? It shakes while stopped but in Drive?

Any dash lights on? Perhaps put up a video?

Does it shake less with A/C off?

I would just take it to the dealer for your next oil change, mention the shaking and ask 'em to check the motor mounts. Shouldn't cost very much.

Mine was shaking, not keeping 900 RPM .. new spark plugs , wires and coils with life time warranty (from ryanrotaryperformance) made huge difference.
No hot start problems, cold start slower, but also I learned try to reheat coils for 5 sec first and it seams to work well.
But now engine works so smooth.. more quiet on lower RPM and still... no shaking amazing. Now checking suspension.. after this I am getting ready to rebuild whole car. I love it love it love it.. it gives so much pleasure to drive.
