SC My Introduction into the Rotary Life

Hey guys,
This is my first post on this site and this is exciting. For the longest time, I have been a Honda guy, mainly because they were cheap and easy to work on. Well I got to a point with my 1997 Civic Hatchback where I started to think that there was nothing left I wanted to do with the car. I absolutely loved the car, and I had put a lot of time and money into making it what I wanted, but I just wanted something different. Well about 2 months ago, my close friend bought a 2004 Winning Blue RX8(which is #3 for him) and asked for my help to change out the radiator. I helped him out and we went for a drive to make sure all the air bubbles would work their way out of the system. Driving this car opened up a part of my mind that I forgot I had. This spirited drive reignited the passion for cars that I had started to lose. This made me hungry for more than what my 1.6l fwd Honda could provide.

I had always wanted an RX8, but never thought I could afford to buy one. That was until I found this gem.

I thought to myself "there is no way this guy would be interested in trading for a Honda" but something in my head told me to contact the guy, so I did. The next day, I received a text from the guy saying he wanted to check out my car, so I asked for his address and headed over. I told him that the car was a work in progress, and had a few things that needed to be finished, but that it ran like a top and was always good to me. He test drove my car and I checked out his inside and out, and he said he would sleep on it. I assumed he was going to say no, so I started to search more for another 8 that didn't run or had something wrong with it. The next day I saw my phone light up and went to check it. It was him saying he was wanting to trade. I was so excited that I was going to have the car that I had been wanting for so long, so I told him I would come and pick up the car that weekend. That weekend, I had a buddy of mine that had a trailer big enough for a car come and help me pick the car up to get it home.

This thing is beautiful, it only has 90k miles on it when the engine went. The guy that traded me said he thought it was just flooded or lost compression. It was a different story once I got the Renesis out and disassembled. Whoever had this car before it died thrashed the heck out of it, and starved it of oil too. The first thing I noticed was the front main bearing was toasted, and that provided so much vertical play in the eccentric shaft, that it caused the rotors to rub on the side housing and cause some burn marks and pitting. I assumed that I may have to buy new components, so this doesn't bother me. I can not wait until I have this beauty on the road.

Wish me luck guys, I am going to need it. This is all new to me but I love to learn about new systems. Thanks for all the support.
