Cool My Firsty!

Well, I'm horrible at introductions, but here goes. Just recently bought an 04 Rx8 2 weeks ago, and I've been having this serious problem of not wanting to get out of it. I've always dreamed about owning a Rx7, but not once did it cross my mind that at 25 I'd be owning it's little brother! Couldn't be any happier right now! AWIGHOPISAD

Ok so now that that is out of my system, back to business. Just purchased my beauty 2 weeks ago and enjoy every chance I get to drive it. Right now only problem I have is that it's starting rather.... slow? It's taking about 3-10 seconds to start up. It seems to be worse on a hot start that cold, but can't pin point much of a difference. I'm getting it looked at and fixed Thursday. Not out of my pocket so no matter what I shouldn't have to worry about putting money into this problem. I've been reading the newbie threads and I see that the most common problem of this would be wires and coils and such in that area??? Also feels sort of bogged down or slow on the acceleration. Could all be tied together, but again, it will be in shop Thursday to take care of whatever problems may be. Just thought you guys should know as well!

Other then that small, or possibly big, problem, I'm completely happy with my purchase. Car idles at or around 800rpm, no noise from engine, and heat works fantastic with these cold days we've been having! I'm ready to make additions to the car, but I'm also going to wait for a little bit warmer weather before getting into engine mods. I've been reading the threads like I said earlier and I'm grateful for them as I've felt like I've learned quite a bit in just a short amount of time. I kinda have my eyes open on a few things I want to do with the car at the moment, but I'm a guy of visual learning and hearing feedback from others who have paved the way with trial and errors before me help give me a better idea of where I want to start.

With that said, and before I continue to ramble on about an introduction that I'm bad at, hello and is there any interior mods/accessories that you guys like? I'm looking for some personal preferences more than a thread to be pointed to. I'll explain in more detail my ideas I have for my car in later days, but until then I'll stop typing to read welcomes and ideas! Thanks!

Welcome.
Problems with hot starts usually mean bad compression.
Your best bet imho would be to get a rotary specific compression test before spending too much on it. A possible engine rebuild could cost several thousand dollars.
Other common problems are bad coils, plugs, & wires, which lead to clogged catalytic converters.
You'll need to take it off & inspect it.
Good luck!

slow starts can also be caused by weak battery and or the slower/smaller starter. plugs coils and wires should be changed if you dont know how old they are. read all the stickies in riwwps sig. as big c said problem hot starts are usually a sign of poor compression but look at the starter and battery too

Thanks for the reply's! I will let the shop know everything that's going on. Any recommendations on a compression tester that I could get for myself? Like I said before the engine runs smooth, idles right at where everyone says it should, and haven't had any issues while driving. I will keep posted how things are after I take it in and post some pictures up to prove I'm real!

TR-01 Rotary Compression Tester is the only one available to the consumer public I think, though a guy in Finland is messing around with creating an Arduino based one.

Generally, we just recommend taking it to a dealer for the test, since nearly every dealer has a rotary tester, and it can be hard to source the TR-01 at times, and the price of it makes it hard to justify buying one yourself.
