Midpipe Exaust Leak?

I just got a new eBay midpipe and installed, it sounds nice, idles really loud, and the smell is no joke. Two concerns, the smell, ik it can’t be good for you, and second, exhaust leak, it has a slight gurgle at low rpm’s, is this normal for a midpipe, idle is very loud as well. The interior does not smell really unless I’m parked with the windows down. So I would just like to know if I should be concerned or not, smell is fine as long as it’s on the outside. Just don’t want it in the inside. Would appreciate any advice, and will try to upload as much video documentation as possible.

it gurgles when accelerating here is the video, you can get a better idea from the cabin noise.

I had a leak at one end of a mid pipe that scorched the heat shielding in the tunnel - solved leak with thicker gasket. Heat shielding was black and looked close to ignition. Don’t mess with chances of fire. Also, I’ve been exhaust poisoned in a work boat. Do not ignore carbon monoxide - it will kill you. Seal up any leaks.

yeah, I’ll be honest it doesn’t line up 100% but the gasket overlaps areas it doesn’t line up at the manifold, could that be part of the problem. No apparent leaks? Just has a weird gurgling headers type noise, tightened it and lighted it up a big more this morning. Still same noise and it’s definite sly comping from headers connecting to exhaust. Is it normal or not? Should I be coneceremed of exhaust leak, anyway to tell. Placebo is really strong, so if I’m paranoid and drive around I don’t know if me being “dizzy” or thinking I smell the fumes etc. is reality, or is just in my head. Worse part, the previous cat had a nut welded on and the bold stopped so if I decide to put it back on I’ll have to get it fixed somewhere. I’d really like to keep the midpipe on as long as it’s safe.

The aluminized paper gaskets those types of midpipes usually ship with tend to come apart pretty quickly at the header to midpipe joint. Maybe that's the gurgle you hear and cause for smell in the cabin. I'd check that and/or replace it with something more permanent, a donut or OEM-style ceramic ring, whatever fits.

As for smell out of the tailpipe, yeah I mean. It'll do that.

ok, I don’t smell it in the cabin to be clear, paranoid that it might be leaking and coming into it without me knowing, I’m already paranoid, so hard to tell what Is really happening and what is in my head. So the gurgle is not normal? Low rpms, It sounds fine at idle. Could you link the gaskets by any chance, or know where I could buy them, thanks.

Try to use the cabin air mode and windows up as much as possible, especially in reverse.

Gasket will depend on what the midpipe's mating surface looks like. If it has a recess for the stock ceramic ring or is widened for a donut, etc. Any exhaust shop should be able to help you solve it if it's a problem.

Hard to say whether gurgle is normal or not without being there, depends on midpipe and where the sound is coming from.

gurgle was not there originally, so that’s why I’m concerned, also what do you mean by recess. Thanks.

sound is coming from headers to midpipe area, could it just be the sound of the headers because there’s no cat to muffle the noise? I sealed it real good, I mean it doesn’t line up perfectly but gasket compensates, and it’s super tight. Also, the noise isn’t there if I rev in neutral. idk what else to do. The interior does not smell at all.
