A non running vehicle is a little more than a small issue. So, it won't stay running and you have to keep your foot on the gas to even start the vehicle? Has it had any issues with hot or cold starting or does it not matter?

Do you have any loose or broken vacuum lines? The car will behave as you describe if there is a vacuum leak somewhere. Does it have the original Mazda intake?

Loki, as discordant as ever does bring up an excellent point. If any vacuum line is missing on the vehicle, then all kinds of things go weird with these cars. The RX7's had a massive rats nests of lines.

While interesting/scary, that doesn't answer the question about your vacuum lines. If the battery was disconnected , the computer would have to relearn how to idle, which it could be having difficulty with if there is a vacuum leak. It could have previously learned to compensate for it, but may not be able to learn now.

Your "security chip"? Can you explain that you mean? The + and - of the dome light wiring or the battery +/-?

Check your fuses, but the dome light is on an entirely different circuit from engine controls.

If you have an OBD2 reader, try to start the car and do not press the gas. Watch the Short Term Fuel Trim value. If it's over 10, you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Open the hood, find the a rubber tube that looks like an accordeon. It will have some vacuum lines coming out of it. Trace each one to its end and look for holes, cracks or disconnects. Especially common problem is a loose VFAD line, which is very small and goes along the underside of the intake into a solenoid on the right side of the airbox. If that line is missing. If you need details on where each line runs, google "rx8 vacuum diagram". In general, look for loose lines. Nothing should be loose.

In case it's not the vacuum lines, do you want to try answering some of the other questions?
