Limp mode

My rx8 has no pin in the etv 15amp fuse. It just blank. So someone before me took the wire yellow and green. I believe that's the etv fuse wire anyway and tied it around the engine fuse a couple spots above it. I let the car sit for about a year and when I started it back up after buying a new battery it starts right up. But when I drive it. There is no power. About two thousand rmps max. I checked all the fuses cause I also didn't have powersteering or turn signals. When I took out the powersteering fuse and put it back In it worked. So I cleaned all the fuses. And turn signals worked too. Till I hit a bump. I only have one code. P0601...... options error. So I checked for continuity. All good. I do have one short. Room fuse. Used test light on positive lead to positive post and the only fuse that made the light go out was the room fuse. I'm paying for this car to be. On the road and cant drive it. Help!!!!!! It drive fine before I parked it.

Sounds like the limp mode from the oil metering pump.

You get no codes and the throttle basically will only open about 15%

To confirm it is in limp mode....
remove the bellows before the throttle body so you can see the throttle plate
disconnect the battery.... step on the brake pedal for 10 sec
reconnect the battery and turn the key to the start position but don't crank it
get someone to push on the accelerator pedal and the throttle plate should open and close fully

Start the car... the throttle should respond for about 15 sec normally...and then stop opening all the way

That will continue until it is reset again....

To try and fix it... you can try and move the MOP position switch a bit... pick one direction and move it a very little bit and re-tighten... reset the ECU again and see if it works.....if not try a little bit more....reset and test again. If it doesn't work try the other direction...go back to start and then the other way a little bit...reset and see if it works.... keep doing it until it works.

If you play with it for a long time and it isn't working sometimes you need to just find a known good used one to swap in...

You should also figure out the wiring thing... if the pump isn't getting power it won't work either...although it will usually throw a CEL if that is the problem

MOP is on the front cover below the rear of the battery box. There are 4 small plastic oil lines that attach to it. The switch you want to adjust has 2 small screws that hold it to the pump. Loosen them slightly so you can move the switch body. It is a bit of a PIA to get at as far as I remember.... but it has been a long time since I had to adjust one
