UK latest redline transmission oil - who's tried it ?

Hello Gents

visitor from the UK here, long time lurker but have had my rexi over 4 years

question for the collective is whom has tried the new redline MTL LV oil?
so for a manual transmission ( or gearbox as we brits call it) but its a 70W 75 instead of the 75W80

its considerably less viscous than the thicker stuff ( 6.4 cst vs 10.8 at 100 degC) but still a GL4 so should work OK with out units which cannot tolerate GL5

any expierences ?

hmm, didn't know they'd come out with a new one.
You should be our guinea pig and let us know how it works.

Yep ...I've used it in both my turbo (5 speed) and N/A (6speed) now and it did wonders for both. Used to have graunching ......now I don't.

Here's the thread : https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...=redline+mt-lv

It works very well. I was the OP in the thread Brettus linked, and now I have close to 30k miles on the fluid. It is the best I have tried in this car. It really makes the trans shift better. I live in Arizona, and the outside temps the car sees go from low 20s in the winter to close to 120 degrees F in the summer, and there is no issues at all with the temp/viscosity relationship. I tend to like to try thin fluids in manuals, as in most cases they "fix" a trans with a few rough synchros. Sometimes in the heat you can tell the fluid may be too thin at ambient temps on the high side, especially where I live. This fluid does not exhibit any of that behavior. Also, there has been no degradation in shift quality over the life of the fill so far. I definitely recommend it for street use. Racing may be another matter, I have no experience with that.

Kevink0000 - I’m glad this thread resurfaced. So you haven’t had any synchro issues like the dreaded Royal Purple?

I’ve used the Ford liquid gold for the past year when I bought my 2010. Shifting improved from whatever old oil was in there. It got even better with new engine mounts.

I still wait forever for 2nd and 3rd synchros to let me shift up unless it’s warmer than 25 Celsius. No grinding just very notchy. It seems you’ve had enough time for issues to arise. Thanks for exploring this.

I've got Redline MT-90 (75w90 GL-4) in my '10 GT manual transmission for about 9K miles - no issues. I also changed my differential fluid at the same time to Redline 75W90 GL-5.

No, that is why I like it. It seems to help the synchros work better. I was having trouble with the Ford fluid, and the others, on the 1-2 shift being smooth, the car has a lightened flywheel. The revs would drop too much between the shift because I was slow. I don't want to jam the shifter. Now, I can rev match that same shift easily, really without thinking about it. The synchro engages much faster, and with less effort on the shifter. No bearing noises or anything weird to report. In fact ,if anything the shifting has gotten better over the interval.

OK update time
having lost patience with the Oreca store as that delivery never showed up ( trying to get my cash back at present...)
I found a UK supplier that was also cheaper and it was here in 2 days
so bunged that in ( my god its thin it just pours like milk)
found that my box was overfilled ( about 2 litres came out)
so 1.5 litres of the MT -LV went in and I gave it a good drive / pasting over to the Pond house RX8 meet
and......

its mega

bear in mind I was already on the 'normal' red-line oil MTL 75W80 which was better than whatever I had in there originally
however with the MTL LV is as good again
shift quality is now really good the effort to get it into gear is reduced and the troublesome shift of high revs into 2nd from 3rd now snickety snicks in with no drama

so while its early days ( now have about 100 miles on it) it gets my reccommendation

give it go peeps

I switched to this a while back and noticed less waiting for shifts when everything is warming up. Once at operating temperature shifts are the smoothest yet. Will mention if anything goes bad long term but, good results now 👍.
