Key Fob Stopped Working

The other day my key fob just quit working. I replaced the batteries in it to no avail. I read online how to put the car into the programming mode but when I do and press the lock button on the key fob nothing happens. This is the same key fob that came with the car when I purchased it... any ideas?

Try that. If it doesn't work, the remote might be dead. That happens. You can get replacements or even a flipkey online.

Same problem here. One key fob works the other doesn't. Changed batteries. Would welcome advice.

If you do the programming steps and don't see the door lock/unlock after opening and shutting the door 3 times, the problem is with the car (could be door switch or keyless control module) and not the key fobs. Sometimes they just stop working and have to be reset but you can't if the car won't do the procedure. just another possibility...

Did you read the previous posts?
Sometimes the keyfobs DO quit working and it's nothing to do with the car.
Just the fob dies, nobody knows why.

I did read the previous posts, which listed the fobs as a potential problem. I suggested another possibility with a problem with the keyless control module or door switch issues, etc. Since it has not been mentioned whether while doing the program sequence the doors locked and unlocked, which they should do even if the key fobs are bad.

Ok, I'll try to be more specific to eliminate any possible confusion.
This part of your reply is correct;

There is a DIY Diagnostic thread that includes the immobilizer troubleshooting procedure.
In my case, the result was that the key was not communicating with the coil.
The coil it mentions is in the steering column.
I posted the "Keyless Entry Not Working" thread twice because there is more detailed info in there instead of repeating everything ad nauseum in multiple threads.

This part of your reply is a definitive statement that is factually incorrect.
I replied in response to this to avoid any more confusion with conflicting solutions.

In my own personal experience with the keyfob, nothing happened after the reprogramming procedure, including the door locks.
Mine is an '04, which seems to be the model which was most common with this issue, possibly because there were more '04s sold than later models.
Since the OP didn't specify his model year, I included the thread that helped me resolve my problem.

I was prepared to take my bumper off because of conflicting answers in other threads, when all I needed was the switchblade keyfob.

I'm trying to eliminate any more confusion.

This is incorrect.
They don't always respond with a bad keyfob.
