our 2004 RX8 has a problem with the key fob. The one we got with the car never worked and so we purchased a new one, went through the programming steps, but cannot get it to work. Anyone else have this issue and how did you fix it?

It's common on '04s.
You have to be sure the model and FCC #s match.
This one worked for me;


The fob works and you can get the key cut to open doors, but it won't start the car unless it's programmed with 2 keys or at the dealer.
I use mine for the remote only.

I just got a key programmed at mazda about 3 weeks ago (its an official key) and now my car randomly flashes the red key light at me after i open any doors while the car is on. It only happens at night and the car beeps as if the key is not present after the door closes then key light flashes at you until the car is shut off. I called mazda and they said i need to book an appointment and maybe buy another key (big surprise). i dont know wtf is going on please tell me im not the only one lol

 

I thought they were on the inside and had to be pulled apart, but that could be just the switchblades.

 

Search for "DIY Diagnostic Input Troubleshooting" or something like that.
There is an immobilizer troubleshooting process in there that can tell you what's wrong.

On the switchblade style key BigC yes they are. On the original FOBS they are located on the back. Thats how you know which one to order.

By Red key light you mean the red light on the remote or the red KEY light on the dash? The red light on the button flashes every couple of seconds while you're inside the car. It's just to tell that it's connected to the car. The red KEY light usually flashes with a chime when the engine is off and a door is open. That's normal. If it's blinking while all doors are closed, it could be that your battery is low. Try changing that first.
