Hey all I just got a 2004 RX8 that I’m rebuilding to be reliable and to last me for a bit I just got the engine out. Going to be breaking the keg tomorrow if anyone has any advice I’m all open ears I’m wondering if I should port or anything like that so you all know it’s an automatic if I enjoy this enough I might go bigger with manual and posibly 3 rotor. Anyway thank for having me guys.

ha ha yeah I know as I pulled the motor apart I watched the $‘s go up but still it’s not as crazy as the last car I had which I’m very thankful for, now I just need to find out an electrical diagram for this vehicle that’s going to be the first step after reassembling the engine that way I can make sure everything gets plugged back in properly

welcome to the club.
If you're doing a rebuild, I wouldn't worry too much about porting especially if this is your first RE build. It will have some benefits but the Automatic (especially the 4 port) doesn't have a whole lot more hp available so if reliability is the goal keep it simple.
Atkins Rotary used to have good rebuild manuals / videos you might want to check out. Also, for any rebuild kits that's a good vendor as well.

Just do a standard rebuild with no porting unless you have a minimum $50,000 budget to convert it into a manual 3 rotor. You bought the wrong car if that really is your plan. The Renesis is best enjoyed completely stock with few upgrades. Just rebuild this engine normally to see if you can do it.
