Just bought an rx8 to build a track car.
Picked up this 06 to build a race car. Mechanically everything seems fine and it runs great. I'm going to do a track day with it next week as is (other than track pads and fresh brake fluids) to get some seat time in the car before I tare it apart this winter for full build. Probably get a spare motor and send to Pineapple for race build and also do S2 tranny swap. It wasn't easy finding a manual without sunroof locally. there were a few rx8 with blown engine that i was considering getting to do engine swap. but i thought about and that would take longer and delay my race next season. so i'm going to give the renesis engine a try next year and see how it goes.

Welcome! Looks great. Whereabouts are you?
Buying a used engine to send to a rebuilder may not be necessary, just buy a known good rebuild from Pineapple. Spare engines would serve as a core at best, big parts could be damaged and you don't want to rebuild with them.

I'm from South PA. I was looking into getting a 09+ JDM engine and trans combo. They generally have low miles. I can swap the S2 trans and send the engine core to pineapple for race build
2009+ engines don't go into 2004-2008 cars. They'll bolt in, but making the OMP and other bits work is a big project for no gain. Also if buying JDM, make sure you get the high power version.. some sellers can't tell them apart.
I'm not interested in doing the entire S2 engine swap. I would just use the engine core. Is the JDM core the same as US? How can I tell it's the high hp verion? Verial number?
Here's the run down on 6-port high power vs. 4-port low power differences: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...engines-15652/

Got cha. I'll check with pineapple to make sure before I go that route. Would I have to worry about the omp if I was going to run premix at the track? Thanks for the heads-up.
There's no real benefit to removing the OMP, and if it's unplugged from the computer, the computer will go into limp mode. People *have* removed the OMP from the engine but left it connected sitting in the engine bay somewhere. At that point you may as well just leave it attached.
