Fuel Pump Related Recalls

Ive been browsing the threads lately and heard Danobre say that they are replacing the whole fuel pump during the recall. Is this true? I thought they were just replacing the "Affected Components" (according to the recall sticky) AKA leaky lines and the seals. Anybody have their recall done yet, what was your experience/results, was a new fuel pump on the shop receipt?

Cody some report say that the entire pump was replaced, others report that the fuel pump filter assembly was replaced. It may vary with the dealer, but the recall does not say they are replacing the entire pump assembly.

I have the series 2 pump in my Series 1 2008 RX8 so I am not getting the last recall. I did have the pump resin rings and fuel tank insulation pads done under previous recall. The resin fuel pump rings are the same for the series 1 and series 2 pumps.

[edit] Bases on part numbers, the pump was not actually replaced [/edit]

So I just had this done today and they did replace the fuel pump, but it was a bit of a weird story. Originally they called me to make an appointment for the recall, and I was like "can I replace the fuel pump at the same time?" and they said that was fine, but they couldn't give me a quote because the inventory system was down. They never called back with fuel pump info, but I went ahead with the recall, and this morning when I brought it in, the service manager they said they were changing 3 seals and the fuel pump unit. Receipt reflects that. Soo..

Thanks Loki. My guess is it the entire fuel pump assembly rather that just the "fuel pump filter assembly" as stated in the US recall. Too much trouble to replace just part of the whole pump assembly, easier to replace the entire pump assembly. I will ask my dealer's servce manager today when I pick up my car from scheduled servicing (I get free oil changes for life , at my dealership)

Still I wonder if the replacement is still similar to the old Series 1 design made by Arram , or closer to the new and improved Series 2 pump design made by Denso? Can you help answer that Loki ?

The recall only officially covers the filter assembly. In some situations they will replace the pump if it is damaged.

Hmm, so I looked up the part numbers of what the dealer actually replaced, turns out it's the pump and filter assembly but NOT the pump unit. It's poorly named on my invoice. Will call dealer tomorrow..

Interesting, i'm going to get mine done soon. Just got the letter that the recall parts came in. Also, Loki update me on what the dealer says when you call.

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knew of issues related to this recall? Like what issues it could've caused.

outlawshank, the recall is still being implemented so there is no large feedback here about any problems related to it ,other than one person reporting that they still were seeming to have fuel pump failure issues after the recall.

Just got my car back from Mazda today, they did not replace my fuel pump. But to my surprise they did replace both my A-Arms under the recall. Didn't know they were going to do that, nice.

gwilliams, thanks for the update. Cody Helton, why didn't they replace the fuel pump? Usually with recalls even if the part doesn't seem bad they'll replace it just to be certain.

The fuel pump is not part of the recall, the recall is to replace its housing, if you will, the assembly that sits in the fuel tank, but not the pump itself.

To update from above, the dealer advisor I talked to seems to be confused by this as well, but the mechanics set him straight.

I was confused about this aswell, i thought the housing was the fuel pump... one unit.

The confusion comes from the fact that they often do replace the pump if they noticed it was cracked or damaged. It is not part of the official recall though.

So I have no explanation for why this would be the case, but sinxe the fuel pump housing recall, I'm consistently getting unprecedented fuel mileage. I've run 5-6 tanks through it now, and they have all ranged from 420 to 450(!) km from full to the light. The amount of fuel filled after each case was not out of the ordinary: 50-51L. My driving behavior hasn't changed, it's all the same destination via the same roads. This has literally never happened, since I've had the car, distance to the light has been between 360 and 420 km, with a strong average at 400km.
