Hello everyone.
As some of you may know I bought an 04 RX8 earlier this week. Yesterday I picked up new oil, filter and crush washer. I also got tranny fluid and diff fluid.

Now right after I drained the oil I attempted the oil filter. This car has sat on the dealer lot for over 18 months and the filter was way to tight for my hand to remove. I went to get my clamp style filter wrench. You know the kind with 3 arms that tighten as you twist. The filter was a car quest filter and very smooth so there was no grip. so I resorted to driving a lag bolt through the side of the filter so my wrench would have somthing to push against.

I'm a genius! it worked. Hopefully I did not put the new filter on so tight. Will the tranny and diff be as challenging?

No, the trans and diff should be pretty straight forward.
I always use an oil filter wrench cap with an extension on a ratchet and it comes off nice and easy.

glad you finally got it off though and grats on the '04

all the other geniuses figured that out 17 years ago

You'll need a hand pump to get the oil in on the other two. Please see various DIY threads on each one in the DIY forum area.

Timely advice, I've got an oil change to do tomorrow on an 05 that has sat for two years. Thanks for the advice!
