Intro and a question

Hi all. My name is Matt. I'm a Cloud Solutions Engineer living in Minnesota.

The RX-8 was announced when I was in high school, and as soon as I saw it I knew that I'd buy one new or buy a used one and fix it up if I had to. I got pretty much the best deal I could hope for. I bought my '04 RX-8 in '12 with ~7800 miles on it (one previous owner). I drove it for about 5 years as my daily driver, and have loved every minute of it. Every time I get in my car I get that thrill of driving. Last year I picked up a second vehicle as my new daily driver, and started storing the 8 for winters. This past summer I went on a 10 state 2600 mile road trip with it, drove the Tail of the Dragon in the Smokey Mountains, and fell in love with my car all over again.

A few months after getting it, I picked up an aftermarket radio kit and took it in to Best Buy to have it installed. Everything has worked great, but now that I'm treating it as more of a collector car I'm putting the original 6-CD changer back in. Last year the climate control started to stick on the highest heat setting, so swapping the head unit back in gave me the opportunity to take advantage of a DIY fix from this forum for the issue. I got the climate control apart and re-soldered the loose dial connection, and it all went back together just fine.

Here's the problem: I can't find the wiring harness connector for the hazard switch on the top of the head unit. The Metra Turbo 2 radio kit came with a wiring box and harness into which an extension was connected from the hazard switch. I've checked each of the factory connectors - all of which have obvious corresponding ports on the factory head unit - but I don't see anywhere to connect the hazard switch. As short as the switch wire is I assume there should be a connector directly above it in the dash, but I don't see one.

Do any of you fine folks know where the hazard switch connector is supposed to plug in?

Thanks in advance.

It goes into the radio... It's a bit of a faf but straight forward enough.

Here's the manual for the kit (or at least the current version): https://pdf.crutchfieldonline.com/Im.../120957510.PDF

If you follow it through you'll get to page 3 where it says that 17 screws have to be removed from the PCB. This is to allow you to remove the PCB and unplug the hazard light. In your case you'll need to do this to plug it in! It's not as bad as it sounds, I did it a couple of days ago so it's still fresh in my memory. Basically you can't find it because it's hidden on the front side of that PCB which you can only get to by taking everything apart!

Welcome!! Would love to see some pics of your 8!!! When the 8 came out, I was in the Army and I knew I had to have one. Now I'm addicted. I originally went to the dealer in 04 looking for a Nordic Green GT with the black/chaparral leather color combo and they all but laughed at me. Basically it was very difficult to get that color combo, let alone get one in Nordic Green. I settled on a black one. I now have a Nordic Green GT that I'm restoring but it took me 12 years to find one that was reasonably close and reasonably priced. Like you, I'm loving every minute and have since I bought my first 04!

Thanks mazdaverx7!

Here's probably the best pic I have of it. This is from my trip, on the way back to Knoxville from the Tail of the Dragon.
