Idle surge at idle, only when in gear

Hey guys, just picked up my first rx8. It runs great off idle, but when I stop if I'm in gear it surges a good 3-500 rpm. If I put it in nuetral (it's a manual by the way) it smooths out perfectly and idles at 900 rpm

Being a different animal than I'm used to, I'm open to any wisdom to be offered.

Thanks!

Yeah, gear changes are good, and quiet. Pilot bearing and throw out bearing seem good, pedal down or up, doesn't matter..

Could it be the neutral switch or the clutch switch (not the starter switch on the clutch but the other one).

That's a solid thought... It could send a signal and send a false demand for fuel and ingition system requests...

Thanks!

doubt it’s the clutch switch because it wouldn’t start

if it’s the neutral switch then it must somehow be registering as neutral all the time (spring-loaded ball detent on end stuck inward.

There are two switches on the clutch pedal. At least on mine there is. One for starter gets pressed when you press pedal in, and one at the top that is pressed when you release clutch pedal. Twist and remove top switch and see if it stops the surge.
Dont unplug it though.
