Idle problems - cat back - new engine

So I just bought my first rx8 last sunday and im totally in love with it. Its a red GT that has been pampered by its previous owner, i have all the paper work. But there is a problem the engine was replaced under warranty so its around 12k. The problem here is when it starts it will turn off on idle if not pressing on the gas, so i have to wait till about mid on the thermometer for it to run smooth, also when revving a bit i noticed that the cat back was red with heat and i smelt it, could that be related to the idle problem?

Do you mean that your Catalytic converter was glowing red? In that case your CAT is clogged and it will need to either be gutted or replaced.

+1 and don't drive the car like this, it will kill your new engine. If the ignition was not replaced with the engine, do that asap. Coils, plugs and wires.

Was a compression test done before purchase?
