Hi iam Mark from the uk, I have a rx8. 231 with low compression wanting to do an engine conversion may be rb25 engine or similar.

Any done this can you you buy kits ect to make it possible.

It's probably the reference to the swap. We see a lot of new members show up talking about a swap, and they rarely return, and even more rarely even start a swap. Actually finishing a swap is virtually unheard of.

So to us, you basically said "Hi! I don't plan on being here long".

No offense intended.

 

It's a just barely past Sunday morning in America (where most of the users here are) don't expect much until tomorrow. Also, that swap has been done but they're generally frowned upon by rotary enthusiasts. Search the internet, not the terrible forum search.

Why not rebuild your current engine? It will be a hell of a lot easier, cheaper, and probably lighter.

Haha guys I could rebuild but won't get power I want would a 20b engine be a good swap? and yeh I suppose a big time difference .

 

How much do you know about swapping engines and how much mechanical/electrical ability do you have ? If the answer is not much , you have virtually nil chance of pulling off any kind of swap unless you have a wallet that is bottomless .

Power is overrated, but a rotary produces quite a bit of it. Good luck.

It's true that the rotary produces an amount of power with a numeric value, and that value is greater than everything with a lower numeric power value.

It is false that the value is greater than anything with a greater numeric power value.

I know it seems obvious but statements like that ...

 

Fine, adequate power and occasionally less than optimal torque.

 

It's still rather subjective

Lots of people don't find the RX-8 powerful enough or torquey enough, and that's ok. Engine swapping is usually not the right answer though, simply getting another good handling car with the attributes you want is virtually always cheaper, faster, and smarter. This is true of even non RX-8s The RX-8 is unique enough with chassis and electronics challenges though, that it is even more difficult and costly than most.

As for my ability I changed engines in other cars got a corsa with a 2.0 turbo engine in from a calibra which I done but to be fair pretty easy swap as you can buy mount kits ect iam not to bad but I don't weld which is the down side maybe I need to learn lol. Done all the work on my scoob as well clutch turbo ect.

You wont have a kit for the RX-8, and you need electronics skills and wiring skills for any RX-8 swap, or the cash to pay someone else to build custom one-off modules. Fitment of any engine is a problem, as is all the custom work for subframe/suspension/steering/cooling/exhaust/ppg/driveshaft, but the custom electronics is what seems to keep most serious swap attempts from finishing.
