Help Me Identify These Parts

Hi everyone!

I found this RX-8 on sale that I was interested in.
2005 Mazda RX-8 $6300 obo

I texted the owner and they said that it was...ALL STOCK. Funny, i know.
I'm just wondering what is that red thing under the bumper in the rear picture. Is that another brake light? And how would I identify a stock catalytic converter? I can't seem to find anything like that on the forums and I don't want to end up shelling out 1k for a good one.

And bonus question, would you guys recommend buying a cheap high mileage one and then end up rebuilding the engine, or a higher cost one with less miles?

Thanks in advance

Wheels not stock.

That red thing is a brake light.

Have him take a picture of the cat and post it. We can tell if it is stock, but you won't be able to tell if its any good without taking it off the car. The engine debate is ongoing. I think 50,000 miles is pretty safe, anything over 70,000 I'd say rebuild before it blows a seal and breaks a housing.

Thanks for the quick response Kane.

I'm just worried now as the i know that those rims and that braking light aren't stock and this guy said they were. He also says he is the first owner which means he is either a liar or doesn't know anything about the car.

I will see if I can get a picture of the catalytic converter.
