hello new rx8 owner here, hint: my username. few questions i need help with

Proud new owner of the 2004 RX8 GT. Cant stop looking back at her every time I park her. That's smiles per dollar for me when parked and smiles per gallon when I brap her to clear carbon build up and turn a frown upside down!!!!

Searched but could NOT find much info on headlights and auto adjusting with mildly lowered 8's. Wanting to go with some tein s tech springs until wallet allows for true coil overs. Please no comments like "just save up for coil overs". I mean that with the mst respect. Anyways, prior to purchasing, I wanted to know if these springs would some what mess with the auto adjusting headlights. Its a small 1.4" drop so its not too major. Also not messing with the sway bars yet, which to my research is what mainly affects the auto adjusting due to sensor placement or something along those lines. But I do know that lowering the car will cause sway bar to shift slightly upward at mounting point ends which causes the sensor to have a slight change in angle causing slight change in voltage readouts. Havent seen much complaints about this either. But just wanted to ask to make sure all is okay before ordering. Have few more questions but will start with this. Direct experience answers would be a bonus.

Read through the whole newbies start here but not much info unless i missed something. Been lurking forum from google search for a month now. Finally joined today because I own one now. Its safe to say that from my research I don't see people complaining about their cars being lowered and it affecting the auto adjusting headlights so guess its safe to assume nothing much happens. Not enough to affect night time drive ability.

With that being said. Onto the next question. How fast can you get this car in the 1/4 mile with bolt ons lol just kidding. Bought this car purely for the handling and as a drivers car. So they all say anyways until hp hunger kicks in like a twin scrolled dual ball bearing turbo.

When at a complete dead stop, once i slowly start to clutch balance and slowly accelerate for the first 0-1 mph whole car vibrates as if i have some polyurethane mounts from my mid engine turboed honda. Is this normal or is this symptoms of an abused cars as most rx8's are abused. Its not vibrating like its about to die due to improper clutch and gas balance. Even if i was to say slowly let go of clutch while revving to 2k rpms it vibrates. Almost like a wheel hop without the launch and without the tire spin. One can only assume bad mounts or mounts being on its way out. But engine still accelerates so smooth and idles smooth.

And between shifting gears my rpms fall pretty quick as if i had a light weight 11 lbs flywheel. Is this also normal due to the close gear ratios etc etc. I have to shift it fast like im shifting my turbo civic? Possibly because less rotational mass than a piston engine, so less rotational mass = faster loss of stored momentum energy. Like how a 11 lbs flywheel stops spinning faster than a 20 lbs flywheel.

Maybe with all this said and done i should just go test drive a few more rx8's at different dealers.

Thats a good diagnostic tool for other rotary rx8 noobies like me. Test drive and compare even after already buying your rx8 because the price and color was right.

Have you checked your motor mounts lately?

No problems with the level sensor, it's designed to work within the entire range of suspension travel, which you're not exceeding.

Rpms do drop faster than most cars, for the reasons you describe. You don't have to shift fast, just give it a blip of gas to bring the rpms where you want them. Weird thing to do on an upshift, but normal.

Vibration when letting the clutch out, could be your clutch was glazed. Is the vibration felt through the body, the shifter or both?

Mounts are easy enough to replace, but they usually manifest at idle. If it's really only at launch then it might be the clutch.

Welcome aboard! Change your plugs/coils/wires

Thanks for replies guys. Yes i will check mounts later when I inspect my plugs, check the gap specs and test resistance on my wires.

Maybe the clutch is glazed a bit. Hopefully not. Receipts shows he got a quote and MY previous owner(who only put 9k on it) said the previous owner he bought from recently changed the clutch when engine swap was done. But who knows. Doesn't mean a changed clutch was properly broken in.

Ah let the fun begin!!!!

Thanks again for all. Hopefully one day I can be of use to this Forum.

Hey guys whats up. Had another question come up. Does anyone know the latest top sellers who sell the bilstein pss9 suspension setup for a great competitive price? Called shox.com and they had it for $1599. Any other reputable sellers besides ebay. Ebay does have it for around $1450 but the ebay sellers i found arent authorized dealers so Im afraid bilstein will not honor any defects or future issues, if any should unfortunately arise. I have the tein s tech atm but the drop is not enough and doesnt have the adjust-ability for future uses. My research and future use say pss9 will be perfect for daily, occasional track/ auto crossing, and spirited driving.
edit: JM Auto racing has them for $1466 with free shipping atm. Any cheaper sellers? Cheaper i can get them means more money for other goodies.

Does anyone recommend or have tried KYB rubber shock mount bushing's. I know rubber bushings are just rubber and do the same job as any other besides polyurethan. But some are of higher quality than others. I going to be removing everything anyways and dont want to deal with the oem's with 100k on them. Minus well change em while im at it. Dnt want polyurethan's atm. They are a bit squeaky at times once in a while as i have experienced. Especially where im at, weather gets pretty cold.

update!!!!

seems auto parts warehouse has them for $1411 minus a so called "10% coupon code" but when entered only gives a $100 discount instead of a true 10% which would be $141 discounted off. Maybe their maximum discount is only $100? Anyone know of cheaper seller?

Or does anyone have direct experience with seller on the same part?
