So I have an 04 rx8 I'm being told there's two types of headlights for my car how do I know which ones to get

 

The base model didn't come with HIDs, the GT did, but I'm not sure where between them the line is. Find out what trim you have and you can google whether it has HIDs from there. Clues you havw a GT are: manual, sunroof, leather.

 

Based on how Mazdatrix lists them, the dividing line seems to be whether the car has DSC or not:

 

Yup, my car was a "base" with the GT aero package. Non sunroof, non DSC, non HID.

Then you have HID low beams. There are other bulbs in there that don't change between trims. Is that what you were asking?

The easiest check is to turn on your low beams and check two things: HID require heatup time. WIthin 10 seconds the bulbs will go from a blueish to a bright white. They also should hum pretty decently on startup and get quiet once they're warm.

If they do not follow this pattern, they are likely halogen.
