Fuel Hatch won't open?

Title sums it up. I have to put my wallet to hold the gas lever elevated while i use a credit card to open the gas hatch. Anyone know of any fix?

Id check the condition of this spring. If its still there and intact, you should be able to bend it outward a little to ensure the gas cover seats on it. If it's missing you could get creative,

knowing what's supposed to be there.

In the picture, the little rubber-coated V shape is (supposed to be) a spring - it sproings the lid open half an inch.
You can bend it outwards very slightly, and very carefully, and a drop of oil on the hinge might restore function.
If the tang is missing/broken, you could DIY a small spring in there....
