First time owner

Hey guys, happy to be joining. I bought my RX-8 a couple months ago from a dealership that seemed eager to sell it. It's had a couple of problems but nothing I can't handle just yet. It's got 106k miles and is an '04. I've heard all about the problems supposedly coming my way in a few thousand miles and, with the way this thing runs, I could care less. I was in love with this thing the second I test drove it!

Anyway, love the car, and this looks like a great forum. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions coming this way (first time with a rotary, came from a Honda ;D ).

Every car will fail at some point of time, but if u do take care and follow the ways to maintain it, it's as reliable as any car out there.

But parts is relatively expensive tho, they even use a different type of spark plugs.

Did u get a compression test before?

Nope. I read that thread immediately after getting the 8 though, and kind of brushed it off.

Go back to that thread. The engine will fail for sure if you don't follow it. If it starts showing symptoms, it's too late.

Both of mine are '04's the ss just had a rebuild finished a few weeks ago. It's on the third engine, second one lasted just over 90,000 miles. According to the builder, the engine wore itself out, no major part failure. My wb has 63,000 miles and still getting 18-19 miles per gallon so I believe it's still healthy. Maintenence is key to the longevity of these cars. I would go 12 to 15 thousand miles before an oil change in my old car which I sold to buy parts for the ss. I know that sounds awful but I owned that car for 18 years and put over 200,000 miles on it. These cars are not as forgiving as piston engine cars. Read and listen to what is posted here, most of the information is tried, tested and valid. The more you read, the easier it will become to sift out the misinformation that has developed over the 14 years this forum has discussed these cars . Personally, I love this car and want a 3rd. Physically talk to mature rotary owners and they're more than happy to share their experiences and are fun to drive with.

Oh man. Don't brush that stuff off. Everything in the stickies is critically important information. Do yourself a huge favor and read these threads in their entirety and take the information to heart:
