Blinking cel is always a misfire situation. Did you do a rotary specific compression test BEFORE you bought this car to really know the true health of your engine? Unless you have owned rotaries before your feeling that it runs fine means nothing without a compression test to determine if you have a failing engine . A failing rotary engine can seem to run fine to the uninitiated rotary driver. Also just because your ignition "looks" new doesn't mean anything either. How many miles on these ignition parts? OEM coils are gone by 30,000miles along with wires; and plugs need to be changed every 10-15,000 miles. You may need to change coils, plugs and wires. In a rotary car poor ignition health can lead to engine and cat damage.

Also how is the health of that cat?. It doesn't say what year and mileage is your car, but used RX8s can have many issues, especially if proper maintenance wasn't done.

Read this thread thoroughly if you haven't already. Get that compression test right away. And follow this guide to what your car may need due to its mileage:

Quote:
30,000:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Spark plugs I just replaced mine this morning, mine threw a P0302 then next thing I know it wouldn't start.
I can tell from the plugs previous owner didn't premix at all.
I think initial start up after rebuild may have been a contributing factor also.
My plugs only had @6k on them, the wires and coils were changed at the same time and still failed.

The new owner's thread has a section on ignition, and it gives part numbers.

No gap to set on them.
