UK Driver Seat Operation

Hello, im new here and this is my first post.

The problem I am having is that my Driver Seat slide forward/backwards motor does not operate upon pushing the swtich on the side. The Lumbar/Leg operations do work 100% though (so cannot be a fuse?).

I have attempted to follow the 'DIY Seat Removal Guide' to try and extract the whole seat so that I can remove the motor itself and try to troubleshoot. BUT, the seat cannot move forward/backwards so therefore I cannot access the bolts etc.. required for removal.

So, please help me troubleshoot this issue, like I stated, its only the forward/back operation that is not working.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Have you tried using a multi meter to ensure you are getting power to the motor. And welcome to the club.

How about power from the connectors under the seat, that should be a little easier.Im trying to work out whether the seat motor has bundied off or there may be another issue.

Well I did try and put my hand under the seat from the position that its stuck in and see if I could feel and connections, I could not unfortunately. I was hoping to remove the whole seat and test everything 1 by 1, but the seat will no move forwards or backwards so therefore I cannot access the retaining bolts securing the seat down

Ok a lot of times a coin will get caught in the track and cause this issue . Was this checked ? Also I have seen these motors also fail as well as the switches . You can try hooking the motor up to direct power and see if it moves

jump out the switches.

Pulled this up from another site give this a look.

Shady may be on to something, my 85 RX7 had a prob with the power windows and it was carbon build up between the contacts inside the switch.

Hopefully you weren't checking continuity on the "source side" of the harness since it has constant voltage.
Only fuses in that circuit is the 120A MAIN, 30A BTN, 30A D. LOCK... no relays.

Do the tilt, recline, and lumbar controls still work?
If so, that'll eliminate the fuses since they are on the same circuit.

There isn't much to this circuit, so you should be able to narrow it down with basic electronics skills.

Pulled this up from these forums
Hope all this helps out

Thank you Shade, I have checked for coins in the tracks, and as I have stated, I cannot access the underneath of the seat to check for motor problems. All the other switches work fine (lumbar support, tilt). In this case, how does the switch panel come apart? if I can do this then it will help to test the switches power supply.

That the easy part the buttons just pop off with a little Gentile force. The side panel is just snapped to getter and again with a little gentile force should come apart. I just went out and did this to mine just now to see how to get to the switch.

ah thank you very much! I will try this in the morning when I wake up, and from here I should be able to test for a power supply to the switch right?

You see that flap of leather the is where the wires connect into the switch so you lift the flap unhook the connector and you can test from there. And if your good enough with a multimeter you should be able to test the switch to.

Ah cool! thank you so much, I'll test that all tomorrow and update you afterwards it could be a loose connection behind the switch or something could it not? I'll do my best and check everything, as for the multimeter skills, I should have them haha

Here is a assembly diagram I dug up off the net. Granted its of a right side drive but it should all be the same just reverted it has part numbers to might help with ordering if you need to. As for loos connection I won't say no but as all other functions are working I'm leaning toward bad switch

Well, I have just been out early morning and completed my task. I removed the switch panel as you shown me, like you guessed it was the switch itself. The housing around the 1 switch socket was cracked and Im guessing that was causing the switch to not lock on a contact. I've applied some glue and now the switch is operating perfectly!

Thank you so much for your help guys, without your assistance I would not have been able to do this! And this is why you are such a brilliant community for help and advice, I will always come back here!

Thank you once again
