In drive won’t move

I have a 04 RX8 automatic went to leave work put in reverse backed up drive about 500ft notice I was not picking up speed, so pulled off road and while car is In Drive I can rev the engine up and no movement. Put in in manual and try 1 & 2 and not movement. Also in reverse no movement, when I push car back out of road and tried again still no movement but very very little in reverse. What the heck happened?

How's your trans fluid level? Any puddles of it around where you parked?

If it has fluid, it's possible a solenoid has failed, but since you say reverse is working but slow, my bet is you've lost most of the fluid.

Is the check engine light on, and if so, any codes?

Haven’t had a chance to put the computer on it yet, but will update when I do. At lunch I went out and tried to see what would happen and it will creep in reverse and a snail creep in drive
