Question Doggy Auto Trans

I searched and couldn't find the answer. Is there a way to reprogram the transmission to shift a little later than it does? It shifts so soon that there just doesn't seem to be very much power.

I usually drive using the paddle shifters, but I would like the option to use the regular drive mode once in a while, maybe like the "Sport" mode on my old Passat.

Is there anything like that available?

Thanks!
Mary

Nope I asked the same thing. I was told it may be possible but sounded to expensive for me.
I hate it when I'm doing less than 30mph and the trans has already shifted into 4th gear.
Know wonder so many 04' AT's had engine issues the shift points keep the rpm's below 2500 just cruising around.
I drive with paddle shifters (alot kinda fun without the clutch to worry about) and don't really ever put in 4th till I'm above 50mph.
Make sure to wind out the Rpm's with those paddle shifters every couple days I do it every day.
From what I've learned is that we bought carbon building time bombs!
Still love this car more than both my rx7's !

I was also told to contact TransGo with transmission ID and see if they had something to offer for the 8.

OnebaddRx8, thank you. I guess I will just keep using the paddle shifters. It's not a huge deal, just seems kinda cheesy for this car. Such a sporty, beautiful car, yet the auto doesn't seem to fit the requirements of the mechanics of the vehicle. Sad. I'm so thankful for the paddle shifters.

I still love my car, too! I'm also researching which coil/ignition system to put on it now. It seems to have plenty of get up and go, as long as I control the shifting and I just finished my first tank of Lukas gas treatment. It seems to be running good, but I believe a new ignition would help as it cranks a bit before starting. The people I bought it from seemed to know the major quirks of the car and they knew to keep the oil topped off and said they would take it out weekly for a good run. Even though it seemed to be a first car, the parents were very involved with it and the driver was a girl, so it seemed to babied quite a bit.

I love just about everything about this car. God knew what car I needed next and led me to the RX8. I've had the luxury car and the suburban/mom-mobile, etc, now it's time to have something for the experience and thrill.

Thanks again, OnebaddRx8, I appreciate your input.

I bought mine with a freshly rebuilt motor with new coils plugs and wires done less than 5k ago.
I am still going to upgrade to a BHR Ignition system and add a Sohn 2 cycle adapter I want to keep it as healthy and fun for as long as possible.
The people on here have taught me staying on top of the maintenance is the key to keeping it fun and not a major headache.

I've got a 07 6spd RX8 that I mostly drive on road trips to track it.

I tried using the paddles, but the transmission knows the load I'm putting on the engine better than I do.

One more thing. The stock coils are defective, and I wouldn't dream of chancing engine and cat converter on them. Your car may be miss firing, and loosing power so it shifts. Get some BHR coils and put 8 oz of 2 stroke Jaso FC or FD per 12 gallons.

The rpm's for shift points are load based, so the more rpm you want, the more throttle you give it.

Once warmed up, I'm to the floor on entrance ramps, and passing.

The trans will shift itself at about 7k rpm which gets about all the power you call use.

Transmissions are made to shift early if you are driving easy to save wear and gas.

You want higher shift? Drive with your foot on the floor until you reach speed or cars are in your way.

OnebaddRx8, I agree. I plan on purchasing a BHR ignition this weekend. I think it will solve a lot of my issues.

40w8, what you explained makes sense. The BHR ignition should help a lot. Also, I think I am just used to my Passat's "sport mode" on the auto transmission. It would shift at higher rpms without me having to put my foot to the floor. Definitely looking forward to the upgraded ignition. Then i should have some stories to tell. :-)

Thanks for all the help everyone!
