I don't really get that feeling from him, but I agree, the water issues can be really major. It started earlier summer 2019, but he wasn't driving it a lot and kept it under covered parking. He looked into what the issue could be and narrowed it into likely the rain channel, which I found to be likely, but he also lives in an apartment and doesn't have anywhere to work on it. Which is one of the reasons he is selling it.
I guess it's not a deal breaker for me, but definitely is a major consideration with the pricing due to the repairs that may be necessary.

Well, you are there and can see the car I cant. Just try to get the information you need to make an informed decision on it. Go through the car and make sure everything functions as it should. Most importantly have the compression tested before buying. If it's over 7 bar on all 6 rotor faces and isnt smoking when you start it up (little bit on startup is normal but should clear in seconds on a cold engine) could be a good buy.

05 or 06? in 05 the only shinkas were black cherry mica, in 06 they added more colors. rare isnt what you want to look at, what you need is a rotary specific compression test which will have three #s per rotor and the cranking rpm

06. It's in the Shinka build order list posted on here somewhere so I know it's for real and it has the seats and door pillar emblems. I haven't been able to go look at it, I was just curious what kind of numbers were out there for Black Shinkas because it seems like there aren't many.

as i said it was the only color color shinka in 05 and continued in 06 plus other colors so its probably the most common shinka color (dont have #s to back it up but iirc theres an old thread on the #s made)

Ah, no I mean brilliant black in an 06. Black cherry was the only in 05, then copper red was the "Shinka only" color in 06 with some other colors also. I've seen the copper red ones, a couple grey ones and I think a white one. First black one I've seen looking as much as I look for the last few months. Small sampling though. I'll see if I can find that color breakdown. All i was able to find before was the build order and that just has VIN numbers.

As a anniversary owner, i can say 200 is 100% right.
Its really just a trim package, with a fancy name...Just so happens my two favorite colors on the 8 is the Cherry black and the metro mica..
But a strong compression car is better than the best color, which is subjective

So I have yet to actually run a compression test. I've been looking on and off, but haven't come across anything I had enough interest in or time to go look at. There is one right now that I'd like to consider with a 30k mile Mazda reman engine, but as always, compression test it.

My question is, how long does it take to do it yourself? I have Steve Miracle's RCT 5.2. I've looked up how to do it, but I haven't seen a time. It appears you need to jack up the one corner, remove the wheel, remove the trailing plugs (when applicable), pull the fuel pump relay/fuse and crank. Then undo the work. My guess is 30-45 minutes if I knew what I was doing. Since I haven't done it before and I'm not really familiar with the RX8, maybe an hour?

Anyone able to give me an estimate on how long it takes to go through the process of running a compression test?

I've done them in about 20 - 30 minutes on average. The hardest part is screwing in the adapter as it can be a bit fidgety to screw in the trailing spark plug holes. You don't need to disconnect anything electrical other than the spark plug wires. Pushing down on the accelerator as long as its a series 1 (2003 - 2008) RX8 will cut all fuel to the engine. Not sure if this works on a Series 2 so would disconnect the fuel pump fuse. It's really quite easy to do.

Thanks! I'd probably allot 40 minutes time for me doing it the first time and what not.
