TX Dallas Area RX8 Owners - Rotary Performance?

Are there any Dallas-Area rotary owners here?
If so, have you had any experience with Rotary Performance? How was your experience?

They seem to be the best (& one of the only) Rotary mechanics around here.

it’s pretty much the only local place if you want a rotary specific shop. Never used them myself, but know people who do. They’re familiar with RX8s enough. You’re not stating the specific purpose for going there though. My view might be different for say; an engine rebuild, vs. general maintenance and repairs, but then my experience and purpose is different that the average street driver/owner. I think they do their best and are honest, which frankly is maybe not so easy to find any place these days.

If you have a decent set of tools and can follow directions, you can do it yourself. We have write ups here on how to do it. If you need help, you can always ask. We're here to help you.

I appreciate that man. I guess the only question i really have is - do I need to remove & replace the spark plugs/wires before & after i deflood? I've found some videos that say yes & some that say no.

I would inspect the spark plugs but expect to replace them. I get mine from www.rockauto.com. They have good prices on the correct NGK plugs for the car. The ugs should be cleaned and dried before reinstalling at the very least. But if there's heavy carbon deposits on them, I would just replace them.

The wires should be inspected as well but do not expect to replace them unless they are brittle or oil soaked. You can run a continuity test on each if you'd like. That will at least confirm there are no breaks in the windings.

thank you for your advice. i'd like to do the tune up myself, I just want to make sure I do it right. have been watching loads of videos & reading posts on here.

I assume fuel soaked plugs would need replacing? poor thing was so flooded it hated me for trying to start it.

Not a local to Dallas, but I have a friend that lives there and I usually drive there when I go to see him every now and then. I've been to RP before - these guys are good and they know their stuff. Since I live over in IN, I communicate with them over email when I run into a trouble code I haven't encountered before. They're super helpful like that.

Yeah I eventually went to see them. They seem like really good people & very knowledgeable about the RX8's & RX7's. One of the guys was really patient with me & all my questions. Gonna keep taking my car to them as long as I own it.

You can save yourself a lot of time and money if you learn to DIY.
I was tha same way with the RX8 when I first got mine in '12
There are a few basic tools that you would need, and space to work.
Much of the maintenance, while not 'easy', is really not too hard, and there are a few procedures you need to know after deflooding and tuneups.

If you have the space, invest in a floor jack and a couple of jack stands to start.
A relatively cheap HEI tester can help you test your own ignition components.
A little investment now will pay for itself in the long run.

I'm planning on learning to DIY once I get the engine sorted out.
They recommended a reman over a rebuild because my housings are likely not usable.

I tried to delfood it myself before I took it it them & I think I just made it worse.
What procedures are you talking about after delfood/tune up?
Are they something listed in one of the sticky threads? If so, I'll go look there.

I don't really have space because I live in an apartment complex, but I do have access to a floor jack, jack stands, & tools.
Most people who live here usually just pull their car onto the road behind us to work on their cars.
Don't really think the complex cares but better safe than sorry I suppose.

I'll definitely look into the HEI tester.
Thanks for the help!

They recommended I get a reman as well should I ever need one in the future. Turns out its a bit cheaper than a complete rebuild - they did say that they could do streetports though. And yes, procedures are found in the sticky threads and in the Diagnosis thread in this forum. I hope you get that engine up and running soon dude.
Good luck!

Resetting the NVRAM, (20 brake pedal stomp) and resetting the DSC.
Anytime you disconnect the battery or you lose electrical power from a dead battery.
