So my car had been going through catalytic converters like its nothing. #3 just broke and the store is trying to figure out why. It's not s universal cat it's a direct fit oem from Napa. The first one and this last kne broke right away so I think it's factory issue and the third one I believe is from the O2 sensor not working either way it's a hassle does anybody have any ideas?

"Direct Fit" doesn't mean that it can hold up under the rotary's extremely hot fuel laden exhaust. A Davesport cat on another member's car, for example, blew out in about 90 seconds of hard driving.

There are only a couple options that will hold up under the rotary's heat + fuel.

Usually aging/faulty ignition is what kills cats. Have you replaced the ignition coils, wires and spark plugs recently?

Beyond that, what do you mean by "broke"? Cracked? Throws a check engine code?

I have only ever seen one aftermarket CAT that could stand up to the rotary heat.....and it was a lot more expensive than a stock CAT

Best idea...buy a low mile OEM unit

What the others said. My BHR cat frequently heats up to 1600 degrees F.

Ok so taking what you all said into consideration I have contacted the store who sold me the catbsmd they in turn contacted the manufacture who sells it to them. The store manager who called them told me that their cats should hold up under the heat caused by the rotary motors. He tolde that it is very possible that it could have been the ignition coils like what you said Loki. I replaced the spark plugs and I am almost positive that the downstream O2 sensor went out as well. I am going to take it into the mechanic ASAP and see what they say about the coils. I will let you all know the outcome when I find out. That's for the fast responses guys

IF the coils are tested with anything other than a timing light or a physical spark tester, don't trust the result.

The factory coils can be so weak as to have lost you 30whp after 30,000 miles... I somehow suspect you are WELL over that. Replacing the factory ones every 20k-30k is highly highly recommended.
