FYI (to all newbies)
You can use the thread tools at the top to subscribe without actually posting something.

However posting a subscribe it increases your post count by +1

(what me advocate gaming the post count system )

Great thread. I'm a new owner and I'm going to enjoy getting to know my 8, and spending some quality time with my father while running through these DIYs.

On the MAF, the car "can" idle with a dirty MAF, just not as effectively. it is a little rough. If you add the compressor load, and the electrical load of the blower in the car, and the load of the radiator fans and whatever the AC clutch draws (probably not much), you are really trying to draw a lot of power at only 750 RPM. If air and fuel and spark are not just right, it can miss, or at least not burn the fuel right. You get your air data from the MAF, if it is off, then fuel is off, car runs like crap. It made such a difference I did all my cars. My daughter commented the next day that the 6 was running better.
The DIY says to spray the MAF & IAT with contact cleaner. What is this exactly? Thanks!!

Auto parts store should have MAF cleaner. In the absence, electrical contact cleaner is likely the same thing. Radio Shack should have that. Basically you want a spray on solvent that evaporates completely with not residue.

Man, this is great! All seem easy to do, but critical, especially for my 8 that has to run in the Texas summers!

Thank you!

Hit search, type in "PDF Shop Manual"

Go to the thread titled "2004 RX-8 Shop Manual"

The link I use is at the bottom of the first page, some of the earlier ones are broken. It is in an on line format.

Or try http://foxed.ca/foxed/index.php?page=rx7manual#rx8

^..............(he he he), you didn't find them all though, but you got most!

There's a few sleepers(small stuff) I've run into out there in my travels, but not much more than what you listed.

Great thread. I spend one weekend a month autocrossing then at least another weekend playing under the bonnet (hood) of my Rx8 to make it that little bit better. Plus wash and wax twice per month. This weekend I set up my alignment. This thread should keep me busy for a few more weekends. Thanks taking the time to write it.

Excellent thread. The Stratus I had, I did the A/C mod. Definitely made a difference.

Yeah, I don't get it... How hard is it to really search? I knew about the PDF shop manual before I found this forum. Using Google isn't that hard either!

I wouldn't be surprised of those who asked for the shop manual later post a new thread about: "idle issues, deflooding my RX-8, coolant light, warming up the car, using 87 octane or synthetic oil, or why did I loose in a drag race..." But then again, who the hell am I to say?

^, ^^ and ^^^

Initial post edited to encourage search or suffer consequences. I also fixed a link or two that were broken (Thanks 9K). This thread is intended as a safe spot to share stuff I learned without the pain an uncertainty involved in learning it.

The dumb question to response ration is around 3. That is more than enough.
