Code P2101 after installing fan relay kit

Edit:
solution: I bought a second hand ecu and re programmed it with IDS and everything is working again.

any help with the code would be appreciated! i just installed the fan relay control kit and metal overflow tank, a fair bit of coolant came out the radiator hose when i was disconnecting and reconnecting it to the new overflow. a bit of water when refilling got on the battery, it sparked, made the whole car power off for a second (like battery was flat) i made sure the battery was properly dry then tried to start the car and it started fine. the fan relays work how they should and its coming on at 180f but the engine light came on and displayed p2101. Car is in limp mode and it will not rev over 2k. When I start it I can rev it for a few seconds before it goes to limp mode. *P2101 Drive*\-by-*wire relay control circuit* problem ON *1 CCM* i have absolutely no idea what that means or how to fix it, and i cannot find much info. i tried swapping the drive by wire relay (6) with the fuel pump relay and that didnt fix the problem. cannot see any loose wires.Tested the etv fuse Any suggestions?

Did you try the key to "on" press brake pedal 20 times procedure yet? You should see the oil pressure blip.

Check all the wires that go to the throttle body aswell, make sure nothing got cooked. After that I'd start looking into how to check to see if the electronics on the throttle body are still good.

when I try this nothing happens. Unsure if it's because mine is an automatic. Break students up to the point it's super hard to press. Tried it in neutral too without any luck.

Can't see any fried wires

Guess my best bet is to take it to an auto electricition

Cheers

Could be the brake plunger. You will find it near the top of the brake pedal. If you take it out of its housing, you can manually move it back and forth 20 times fast with ignition on. Make sure your brake lights are illuminating when you press the brake pedal.

Check the throttle body connectors as well..

Water and electronics don't mix well...

Might get lucky and it might dry off and go away

Problem is the pcm

I had the rx8 at a mechanics for 11 months and they didn't do anything, so I got it towed to an auto electrician who diagnosed it to be the pcm.

Car wouldn't start at all after sitting that long flooded. Went through 2 used starter motors trying to get it to start but just wouldn't get going, though it was close. Replaced the spark plugs and put in a new starter motor and started it first try.

I bought Mazda ids and the vxdiag nano to reflash the pcm which was successful but it did not fix the p2101 error.

IDs told me it is the throttle control actuator motor/performance. It is getting 3.8v and only opening slightly. Accelerator pedal giving the correct output to the pcm. I took the side off the throttle body so I could see the motor gears and gave it 12v of power and it performed perfectly and opened fully. The TP sensors are working correctly. This verified that the auto electrician was correct.

The pcm/ecu in my rx8 is n3j5. I cannot find a used or new one anywhere with the same numbers. I can't get one that's from the same year and transmission as mine but the part number is n3k8. Unsure if it will work with my car but I'll buy it and try to install it reprogramming the module in mazda ids.

I'll update again if that works.

Try this.... remove the intake bellows so you can see the throttle plate..

Reset the ECU... and then turn the key on and try the pedal to see if the throttle plate opens correctly.

Try and start the car... if the throttle plate opens for 5-6 sec normally and then stops you are likely in Limp mode with the OMP being the most likely culprit.

It is almost impossible to start a flooded car that is in limp mode as the throttle never.opens enough to get it cleaned out and running

Let us know what you see... and we can help again after that

You're right it's almost impossible to start flooded in limp mode! I went through 2 starter motors doing the crank for 4-5 secs at a time with fuel fuse out. Third after market starter motor did the trick though thankfully.

Throttle valve does not open fully after ecu cleared and first starting, opens maybe 25% max.

From the IDS panel I can see the pcm is only sending a signal of 3-4v to the throttle body motor instead of 12v.

The p2101 code comes back instantly when trying to start, and that code itself can put the car into limp mode aswell.

I ordered a new ECU (used) and that should do the trick. I'll update the thread once it comes and I install and reprogram it

Cheers

Was Worth a try. 😒

Should be able to reprogram it with the hardware you have if you get the "as built" data for your car. You can get it from Mazda Tech if you can't get it anywhere else....

All fixed now. Bought second hand ecu and reprogrammed it using IDS. Took a few shots to get it to work, had to reprogram the keys as they wouldn't let the car crank. Used an app called incode lite to get the security codes from the outcodes Ids wants you to get from Mazda.

Stopped working after driving 30m but throttle was just stuck as it hadn't opened fully in so long. Bit more messing around with the throttle and it worked for a day then i replaced the throttle body and no issues with it since.

Thanks for the suggestions and help to everyone that commented
