CEL & TCS/DSC Random issues
Hey new to here so just wondering if anyone could help me out!
So bought a 192 04 Rx8 the other day, had an engine rebuild 7k miles ago, overall clean car!
last few days the check engine light has been coming on and off randomly sometimes in the morning it will be on, I’ll go for a drive later or whilst out restarting the car it will disappear! A long with this the TCS/DSC light will come on sometimes too at random when starting the car and again when restarting later on (sometimes) it will go off.
The car also gets very low mpg, which is expected but I struggle for 12mpg if I’m honest. I can smell un burnt petrol a lot when the car is running which I’m guessing means it’s rubbing rich!?
I know the cat is on its way out as it hasn’t been replaced since the last engine died, I know when apex seals go they can burn the cat with them plus it nearly failed emissions on last MOT.
Could this be a sensor of some kind!? I’ve ordered a OBD2 scanner and just waiting for it to arrive to get some codes.

Until you know what the codes are it's kinda a crap shoot guessing.
If you think your CAT is crapping out be careful... it can take the motor with it if it gets plugged up
Common failure points in the DSC system are wheel speed sensors...
A common on /off CEL is a leaky gas cap seal. It will set off an EVAP code..
Let us know what the codes are when you get that info

Were the ignition coils changed during engine replacement? If not do noy drive this car until thry are changed/verified. Engines don't kill cats, its the opposite: poor ignition kills the cat, which kills the engine. If you have a new engine but bad cat/coils from before, your new engine is not going to live long.
