Can't find the issue

I have an 04 rx8 129k miles MT new plugs, wires, coils...car seems to surge when cold at 5k rpm and I seem to get a jump of power at 6.5k rpm...the acceleration is slow until 6.5k rpm has anyone had this problem before?

By cold, do you mean the temperature gauge needle is still buried? If so, there's your first problem. It's highly recommended to keep the RPMs below 4k until the needle reaches its standard "warm" position.

This post may explain some things regarding the surges: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...0/#post4078383

As andrew said, you really should allow a rotary to warm up fully before operating it.
similar to operating a motorcycle.

That being said, on my '04 i had a similar "surging" issue around 5K, that was due to a broken motor mount (centrifugal force or whatnot)... but i would check the other things listed in the linked thread first.

Yeah, don't drive ANY car hard when it's still cold. Like Car Throttle said, you wouldn't start running as hard as you can when you just dragged yourself out of your bed.
