CAN database file - DBC file

Hi Guys,
Does any one know where I can find a DBC file to the PCM?

It would be nice to install a dash4pro (Compact graphics display with direct CAN input) and use it to read the PCM parameters.

There are a couple of similar solutions using an arduino (look up GoodBox) but they've held the code close to their chest. I'm not too versed in low level CAN data but is the addressing generic in the same way that PIDs are - for the most part - generic? Can you sniff the CAN traffic to identify the addresses experimentally?

Ok... But I think they're using the OBD port, in the arduino projects, for getting the data by PIDs...

Usually production cars dont have standard frame ID, so it's almost impossible to decode the message by "guessing". So I think that the only way to decode the frame is by getting a DBC file.

Have you had a look at this guy on You tube, he's done a fair bit with reading the Canbus codes on the RX8
Not sure if this is what you are looking for.

He's using the OBD-II PIDs which is the one that is used for diagnostic and fault tracing. What I want is to use a Dash4Pro and to do it I need a DBC-file (DataBase CAN-file) so I can read the CAN data directly from the PCM. I guess that it's very hard to find DBC-files for the RX8.

Those are the CAN I'ds that he is listing. You should be able to find what you are looking for on there.

I understand this isnt what you want, but even on the Dash4Pro manufacturer site, they seem to suggest that for OEM ECUs you can just use OBD. The custom CAN stuff is for aftermarket ECUs that dont necessarily conform to OBD.

The polling speed between the two approaches should be identical, its up to the device doing the polling.
