C1165 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure

C1165 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure
I bought my RX-8 last summer. It has been throwing the C1165 fault since I bought it. I checked for continuity across the connector in the trunk to see if there was a short in the harness. The troubleshooting guides I have found say the sensor should measure 1.3 to 1.7 kohms. I measure mine at 1.285 kohms. I am wondering if that is enough out of spec to cause the code???

You could be seeing some degradation in the speed sensor wiring, but typically when you have higher resistance than spec there will be a corrosion issue. Are there any knicks in the shielding or wiring? The sensor portion may have collected someminor amounts of rust debris causing it to read incorrectly. Have you pulled the sensor portion out to inspect it?

Thanks mazdave. The sensor had a very small amount of very small metal pieces on it. I saw no damage to the insulation. There was anti-sieze in the mounting hole so the prior owner apparently had tried to make repair. I pulled a replacement sensor from an RX8 at a salvage yard and cleared the fault. Hopefully it will stay clear now.

Happy to help. Keep us updated on how it turns out. Would have been great to be able to see live data to make sure that sensor is reading consistently and at the same speed as the others. If it hasn't come back on after a few days you're likely good to go.
