Buying a used 05 rx8
If you do anything at all make sure you get a compression test and understand how old the current engine is. Then you will know if you’ll need a new engine soon. Rebuilding engines can be done, but you’ll want to make sure you pay accordingly for the car. It’s not necessarily a problem if you can get an otherwise good car cheap and are willing to go through the process.
There are other things to check as well, but there have been countless new RX-8 owners who come on this forum with compression issues following a used RX-8 purchase.
Compression test is a must.
A rotary specific test, 2 sets of 3 numbers for each face.
Ask the owner if he'll have it tested and you agree to pay for it if it passes.
If he doesn't agree, don't buy it unless you don't mind wasting $200-$300.
Renesis engines commonly start, or are already failing at the 100k mark.
