Buying RX8 tomorrow...need quick tips from the pro's.
Hey guys, I know I'm going to take a bit of flack for signing up just to post this quick. But where else to go, but the pro's with first hand experience.
I'm a former Jeeper, just sold my built up rubicon. I have my heart set on going for an RX8, and the world that opens up.
I'm looking at a MINT 2007 GT Coupe, Phantom Mica Blue. Brand new bridgestone potenza rubber on mazdaSpeed rims. Best part, transferable warranty until 160,000km. It currently reads 45,000. He's looking for 16,000$
So question: What should I look for? what should I ask? Any issues with the 07's? Any "tests" I should put it through?
Thanks guys, I was going to sit and research a lot more, but this deal looks like it might go quick, and other then an 09 R3 with 20,000km for 18,000$....this is the nicest deal around.

You should read up on the warranty... he's probably not telling you about the time based expiration.
Also just read through the threads that are stickied, you will get way more information much quicker than asking people to feed you answers that are already on the board.

One more question... Would you purchase a low mileage (under 50,000KM) RX8 without getting it checked out at a dealer, if it still has a substantial warranty left? As well as a full maintenance history at said dealer.

Ended up buying it. More I talked with the PO, and the more I drove it, I figured why not. Warranty has 4 years left. The interior is cleaner then some showroom cars I've seen...Not sure how he managed to keep it this new.
Got a good chunk taken off the price because the pain peeled off part of the front lower lip...So already have 32c paint in hand ready to shoot.
Has a MazdaSpeed air intake, which really opens up the engine compartment.
Drives like new all around, only thing I've noticed is the idle hops around a little. The car will be smooth, then vibrate a little, then smooth, then vibrate....is that normal with the 8's to have an intermittent vibe at idle?
I'm going to clean the MAF, check the plugs this weekend. Going to check the resistance to ground, and possibly order new coils to have on hand. Order an XcarLink Ipod kit as well. I'll get a compression test done in the next month or two to get a baseline of where it's at.
These cars are fun!!

Well done.
On the idle, check the stuff it my $100 thread below. You are on the right track with MAF and plugs, but Coils and Grounds are important, maybe more so than Plugs. Noise on the ground screws with the sensors, and a bad coil will not fire a good plug.
Someone was going to try just the star washers for the grounds, to ensure that connection. I never heard back, so I assume that helped.

Thanks. I'm at 45,000KM right now. All warranty maintenance has been done, so assuming the original plugs/coils/wires are in there. Local store had Castrol GTX 5-20 on for 75% off, picked it up because from what I read "any 5-20 dino oil will do" ?
What's the best deal around for a full tune-up? I see some OEM kits for around 400$. Are coil upgrades worth it?
Thanks guys- I'm texting from the paint booth while the primer drys on the front lip

are you planning on driving it throughout winter?
Because it is starting to cool down, 5W20 should be sufficient. but in the summer months, go with a minimum of 5w30.
For coils, I would honestly just save up for the bhr ignition. You won't get a good price on oem coils around here, and the cost to replace them every 30k or so will add up quickly...
Where are you having the car painted? I've been scouting for a good place to do mine, and I have a few lined up. gotta wait until late winter...
Your car looks really nice with the front lip! if you were around a couple weeks ago, I could have given you a good deal on Tein springs, to give your car a nicer stance

I'll probably be driving it for this winter only, part of it at least. Depends if the bonus is big enough for a 4x4 beater or not... I'll get a set of Blizzak's or X-Ice on some steely rims. Plus it has a block heater, and It'll be garage stored.
I'll read up on the BHR coils.
The car paint is minty, but the front lip was painted without any adhesion promoter, and was flaking off. So I got matched paint, and some good promoter, and I'm going to spray it on at my paint booth today.

Ordering the BHR Coil/wire/plugs kit tomorrow. I'll get a compression test done before I put the new parts in.
Got the front lip out of the spray booth and back on, it looks mint. Left it with no clear, so I can touch it up if need be. I couldn't decide between the flat black, or the color...
So the only thing I've noticed so far, is a Whistle. Right when I put a tiny bit of gas, just enough to keep it "neutral", it "whistles". Any more pedal, it goes away. Also 1/4 tank in 50km?? Shoulda kept the Jeep :P.
Not sure if the whistle is possibly just the MazdaSpeed CAI... Further investigation required.

Could you take a video of the whistle or describe where it's coming from?
I have tomorrow off from work, so if you like, I could take a look at it.
And yes, 50km's on a quarter tank driving in the city is pretty normal with less than perfect ignition. I think the best I've ever had is 300 city km's, and that was after my bhr ignition install...
