To buy or not to buy?

Question, I am not a true RX8 owner yet but may be soon enough. Here's my question. I have a guy who's selling a 2006 RX8 with 67k. He bought at an auction as "Running". And the day after he started having problems. He said that it runs as long as the gas is being pressed. Otherwise it dies. He has 2 codes, one is a P2070 and the other is a P0301. Anyway is he wanting $3500. Oh, and the title is a salvage title. But the car is beautiful both inside and out. The interior leather seats hardly look like they have been sat in. I have researched the codes and seem to have a good idea what could be the cause, and the time and cost to fix it. But then again I am no expert with this car. My last car was a 07 GT that I ended up becoming fairly decent at working on. And did all major repairs up until the transmission started to fail. Anyway is this a decent price, and what do you think the percentage is if it's possible to say that it's just going to need a new engine? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

$3500 for a salvage title 8 with problems is a lot.
If it's a MT and you have some mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot it, or a budget of an additional $5-7K for a rebuild, it might be worth the gamble if you REALLY want it.
Emphasize "gamble".

If it's an automatic, pass.
You can probably find a AT that runs good and isn't a salvage for that price.
