Auto to manual

Can i confirm that a 4 speed version cant simply have a manual transmission swapped in ? In order to change to a manual gearbox, i would have to have the 6 port engine. Though it may be possible to do the switch, the cost would be illogical. Thank you.

The cost and effort for any auto to manual conversion is massively not worth it. Its easier to sell the car you have and buy the one you want, even if it needs a new engine.
That said, yes any RX8 trans will bolt up to any RX8 engine, so mechanically it's doable. The things that make it complicated is running clutch hydraulics, adding pedals and figuring out what to do with the ECU and associated electronics.

ok thanks. Got it.

moral of the story, if i have an auto, stick to auto. Even if the transmission transplant is done, there may be electronics that cause issues.
This would also mean that i have to stay away from Rx-8s which have done the transplant.

i am still looking for one. Was considering one that had done the transplant, guess should forget about it. Thanks.

That's not really what I said. I said it's not worth the effort, but if someone has already done it, you can at least see if they did it well...

true, but given the kind of rotary expertise we have over here, i think i should not. It would just be a mess.

The rear plate is different for the starter motor and you end up with one less bolt if swapping. Not really an issue though ... you can do without one of the bolts.

hi. For my knowledge. I came across a few auto to manual converted ones. Most owners do not give accurate information.
i would like to know if an original 4 speed version could have only the gearbox converted, of course after going through all the hassle you mentioned above and be able to run as normal …
