Any way to tell when my engine has been replaced?

Hey all,
I bought an 06 Shinka a few months ago for fairly cheap with 160k miles on the odo. The previous owner had the car for four years but I wasn’t present for the transaction so I couldn’t ask all the questions I wanted about engine history. I am just curious, is there any way to tell if my car has had its engine replaced or rebuilt? It runs fine although I’m going to do a rebuild within the next year for peace of mind, but I have literally no clue what the mileage on my motor is and if there was some way to look it up or check a code on the irons or something I’d love to find out. Thanks

Call Mazda North America and give them the VIN. You'll get the service history if it was done at Mazda, including open recalls, etc.
Mazda rebuilds also have a blue tag toward the front of the engine.

If it wasn't done at Mazda, you're on your own. Can you not call the seller to ask?

Before you commit to a rebuild, maybe get a compression test? You'll know where you stand. Rebuilds are 4000+ by the time you get them in the car, if you really want peace of mind.

Why would you consider doing a rebuild without doing a compression test first ?

I see this a lot here and on Reddit... There must be some common human cognitive effect that makes people want to throw money at a problem.
