Any way to tell when my engine has been replaced?
Hey all, I bought an 06 Shinka a few months ago for fairly cheap with 160k miles on the odo. The previous owner had the car for four years but I wasn’t present for the transaction so I couldn’t ask all the questions I wanted about engine history. I am just curious, is there any way to tell if my car has had its engine replaced or rebuilt? It runs fine although I’m going to do a rebuild within the next year for peace of mind, but I have literally no clue what the mileage on my motor is and if there was some way to look it up or check a code on the irons or something I’d love to find out. Thanks |
Call Mazda North America and give them the VIN. You'll get the service history if it was done at Mazda, including open recalls, etc.
Mazda rebuilds also have a blue tag toward the front of the engine. If it wasn't done at Mazda, you're on your own. Can you not call the seller to ask? Before you commit to a rebuild, maybe get a compression test? You'll know where you stand. Rebuilds are 4000+ by the time you get them in the car, if you really want peace of mind. |
Why would you consider doing a rebuild without doing a compression test first ? |
I see this a lot here and on Reddit... There must be some common human cognitive effect that makes people want to throw money at a problem.
