Unhappy Am I crazy for not buying this car?

Ad:

2004 Mazda RX-8 $6000.00 RARE COLOUR MAZDASPEED Edition. | used cars & trucks | City of Toronto | Kijiji

Test drive: RPM's dip at idle, brakes may need work, clutch was finicky and may need replacing, windshield needs replacing, actually has 150k on the odo not 132k like in the ad, overspray in the driver's side wheel well indicates at least some of it was repainted.

Body and interior do appear to be in very good condition, but after writing all these things down, I may have answered my own question.

Well first of all, Lightning yellow is not rare and there is not really a Mazdaspeed edition RX-8. In Canada they had a Mazdaspeed package that added shitty wheels with Mazdaspeed decals but that is about all that made it a Mazdaspeed edition.

That looks like a normal Grand Touring, or Grand Sport IIRC in Canada speak.

Yeah thanks for the feedback, I'm aware of that.. LY is actually pretty rare around here (there are only 2-3 for sale in Ontario right now) but the guy's trying hard to sell the car. I was surprised though that this car doesn't have a sunroof (which I thought all Canadian GT's had). The ad originally listed this as an '06, which I also knew was false. This is also the car where the owner said he didn't believe in topping up the oil (see my other thread), but it appears as though the car's only been driven about 1k since last year. The high mileage worries me though, among the other things I mentioned about the car.

Yeah that is weird about the sunroof, that tells me the car has been messed with unless Canadian models were weird like that. Either way that is a lot of wear on the car even if it was well maintained. Here $6,000.00 should fetch you an immaculate 04' GT with fairly low miles. Hell my buddy is selling a clean 06' Shinka with 70k on the chassis and a freshly rebuilt engine for $7,000.00.

I think it is, at least relative to other 8 colors.
That and NG being '04 only.

I've seen one (besides mine) in the nearly three years I've been paying attention.

I see LY RX-8's all the time here, not counting the two in our local group.

Interesting. I've made three or four 2k+ mile roadtrips and hardly see any 8s at all.
I would say locally I've see silver/gray the most followed by red, blue & black.
I've seen 2 NGs, archwisp's & CTRX8's when he was trying to sell it.

You might laugh harder if you had been along with me for the test drive where he told me that when he bought it he had planned to put a 4-rotor engine in it.

Just having done lots of shopping for an RX...(just got one less the 2 months ago) there are plenty if you try auto trader that are less then 10000..kijijji is a really iffy place as you can see from your seller. Just like all things you get what you pay for...spend more money and you will get better..going for a $6000 car you maybe asking to put more money in and from what I read I wouldn't buy this one. Take your time

I totally agree, thanks.
It seems someone else bought the car today so I no longer have to debate this in my mind. He was willing to take $5k for it, so it was hard to resist.

It's a good thing you resisted yourself from buying it. Before I bought mine, I looked at 2 different ones in the bay area. 1st was an automatic with a swapped engine, ran strong. Lady wouldn't go lower than 6k. 2nd automatic was in perfect condition but with power steering failure and the dude said he filled it up with regular gas and drove it like a regular car, pretty sure he didn't know he had a rotary engine under the hood. He wanted 5,500. I resisted for 10min when another guy came to look at it at the same moment. I went back home and the next morning the guy said he would sell it for 5k to me. I said no way, Jose. I then waited for 3 months and found a MT 04 with 89k, needed new tires, new battery, oil change, and new generator belt, payed 4,400. So, i bought a manual without any knowledge of how to drive it, but i learned in less than 2 hrs.
I prefer the 1st gen as well.
