TN airbox hinge mod

saw this in a youtube video

guy had cut and added hinges to the airbox lid....might make changing filter easier

anyone tried this?

no link, he was working on coils
but i did see the hinges on the lid


have mine out at the moment,,,gonna have to see if a hinged lid front will make filter changing easier, after work

It's already hinged? You push it back to unseat it, lift a bit and it opens like a clam shell. 15 second operation every 30k miles?

I was wondering how it was done, I thought there would be more to it than that.
There would have to be weatherstripping or some way to seal the cut slot.

Simply slicing the box and putting hinges on it is not a good idea, imo.
You're allowing unfiltered air into the engine.
I'd be curious to see if the restriction of the filter would cause a vacuum across the slot pulling dirty air in bypassing the filter.

i was thinking the same thing....

like the idea tho

maybe rivet a 1" wide aluminum strip along the joint to span the gap......

Anything can be fixed with enough weather stripping, but I feel like this literally takes longer to implement than the lifetime total of time spent changing air filters.

You are correct, the hinge is on the bottom side of the airbox.
