Hi all i am new to the rx8 world i have been doing one up to put on the road i had to change the manifold and install a cat with new exhaust.

i have since noticed that the air pump is there but the pipe to the manifold has been cut and the electrical connection removed.

question i have is do i really need the air pump with cat installed? If so anyone know where i can buy the bits i need ?

 

Especially with a cat installed I would reactivate the pump. Not having it can shorten the life of your cat.

As for bits, any junkyard 8 should still have them? Might be a pain to get out.

 

@Loki does it shorten the life?(without it) I thought the secondary air pump only purpose was to help raise the catalyst temperature faster on cold starts to improve emissions.
It's the only time it turns on.

I might have some "bits" where are you located?

you replace your intire air pump system? I ask because its a lot of money to replace everything that could be invested in other modifaktions
if you leave it how it is (is the hole in the manifold blocked off?) you will just get an engine code (i cleard it via MazdaEdit).
you can still pass emitions with a missing/dead air pump (i did)

 

i bought a full system off a guy on fb who was breaking a car so only cost me £36 including postage.

i could of put a blanking plate on the manifold but everyone i have spoke to have recommended having the air pump active as i have the cat on
