ac/heater issues 2004 RX-8
New to this forum, I have had trouble with the ac/heating system in my 04 for the past few seasons (cold from heater-hot from ac), because I stored it from early fall to late spring I have been putting off fixing it, but now I need to fix it, found some threads that deal with this issue that give me some idea on what was going on
, since my mechanical skills are about 0, I will have to take it to a dealer. Any idea on what this might cost? Thank You.

Thanks for the response 04Green, I found this thread by Wingnut that addresses my issue most correctly with just a little variance.
DIY: No Heat? Repair the Heater Control
No heat and only cooling, or only heat and no cooling, or erratic temperature control?
The temperature control **** seems to have quite a bit of issues for early RX8 owners where the system will cool only, and not provide heat despite the position of the control ****. This can also work in the opposite way, only heating and no cooling. After living with it for a season, I finally pulled the heater control unit out and repaired the circuit board. It was simple to repair and because I was going to have to pull the unit out anyway to replace it, it was not much extra work. The replacement unit (part FE01-61-190) retails for $350, some vendors on this site sell it for $240ish, and I hear there are some that sell used parts for $125ish. It is definitely covered under warranty for those lucky enough to be under warranty.
If you do not have heat, or only have heat, IMHO it is most likey the AC/heater control unit. This is the part which has the AC/heat control buttons and *****.
The only difference in my case is that when I try to use the heater it only blows out cold air, I play with the temp. ****, red to green, then back to red, and if I stop in the middle I might get heat for about 30sec.
In the summer when I use the ac, the air will suddenly turn from cold to hot and sometimes if I play with the temp. **** I might get the cold air back for a minute or two. Wingnut does state the cost of the part so if I just add labor I guess I should have a ballpark figure. Wingnut does go on to say that this might be repaired without buying a replacement part.
Since this is a major problem, somebody must have had a dealer fix it, and if so, I was hoping to get a figure on what it cost.

I seem to recall that the issue is the solder joints someplace in the ****. I think the DIY lists a test to see if that is the problem, as well as step by step to make the repair. The test id done without taking anything apart. If you are not comfortable with the steps, a mechanic can likely follow them for less than the dealer would charge for the new part and installation.
